One Riot, One Ranger
‘One Riot, One Ranger’ is an old Texas legend
that goes something like this:
The Mayor of Dallas had an issue with a riot
and called on the Governor to send out the Texas Rangers.
The Gov sent one.
But that one Ranger stopped the riot all by his lonesome.
When we visited the Texas Ranger Museum years ago,
we saw a photo of a current Ranger,
his name was Clete Buckaloo.
Something about that rugged, square-jawed face
just screamed Texas Ranger, and that name was purrfect!
We never forgot about Ranger Buckaloo.
Much later he became Captain of the Texas Rangers
and we read about him in Texas Monthly.
We were trying to come up with a name for this little runt of the litter of fosters
when I came across that old cup
and knew exactly the name to give our brave little kit.
So meet little Cletus Buckaloo.
He is a messy eater and has big boots to fill.
But we know he’ll do Captain Buckaloo proud.

Well, folks, my mama is a Texan and she LOVED that story and that hunky guy…wow. And it’s true…one riot, one ranger. Now if only Texas were democratic as in the old days. Mama is NOT going back, no way.

The version I’m familiar with has a bit more detail. When the mayor realized thre was only one ranger, he protested. And the ranger said “You only got one riot don’t you ?”
