    and we are so thankful

she made her way to our backyard

on a cold January day a couple of years ago.

    Feral Friday

    This post is from 2018.

We learned this week that Big Gray,

the leader of this Feral Clowder

    has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Our hearts go out to Christine

at the loss of this magnificent cat.

Run free across that Rainbow Bridge sweet boy,

may you roll in fields of nip

    with your beloved friends.

The pictures below are part of my friend Christine’s Feral Colony.

Christine is a Feral Caretaker, which means she provides outdoor shelters, food and water for the feral cats in her neighborhood.  She is responsible for getting all her ferals spayed or neutered and vaccinated using the TNR – Trap/Neuter/Release program.  Any feral kittens in the colony she is responsible for she traps, neuter/spays, vaccinates and then finds homes for.  She is like thousands around the country who are Feral Caretakers and bless them all for their humanity and caring.

One feral female can give birth to up to 15 kittens a year.  Do the math, Feral Caretakers not only do a kind service to the feral cats in their communities, they do a service to the community itself.

Notice there are no kittens, no recent fighting wounds and no starving or sick cats – this is an example of a long term feral caretaker succeeding at caretaking – go Christine!

    3 cheers for Feral Caretakers!
